Region of the Great Bend of the Wabash River Watershed

Watershed Management Plan

The Wabash River Enhancement Corporation (WREC) and their partner, Purdue University's Living Laboratory on the Wabash (LLOW), launched their first phase of watershed planning within the Wabash River in the fall of 2007. Watershed management plan developed started in January 2009. Review the committee pages to follow our progress.

The Focus

The section of the Wabash River stretching from downstream of Wildcat Creek to upstream of Big Pine Creek or from Battle Ground to Attica. This 29 mile reach receives drainage from newarly 478 square miles and includes portions of Benton, White, Fountain, Montgomergy, Tippecanoe, and Warren Counties.

Since that time, WREC and LLOW built a partnership of interested agencies, groups, and community members; obtained a grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's Section 319 program; hired a coordinator for the project; and formed project-based committees. Project work began in January 2009. This phase of the project will conclude in May 2011.
